DHAKA, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - Two individuals, who injured in a devastating fire at a gas lighter manufacturing factory in Keraniganj area, have received financial assistance of Taka 15,000 each from the Dhaka district administration.
The injured - Jisan and Asif Molla - are currently undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery here.
The assistance was handed over today by Keraniganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Omar Faruk at the hospital, following instructions from the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Rezaul Karim.
Dhaka District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Saifullah Majumdar confirmed the information to BSS, stating that the financial aid has been provided to support the injured victims.
So far, six people have died in the incident. While two of the deceased have been initially identified, hospital authorities said DNA test will be required to identify the remaining bodies.
Families of the deceased will receive Taka 25,000 each as humanitarian assistance once identification is confirmed, the Relief Officer added.
The fire broke out at around 1:10 pm on Saturday at the factory located at Kadamtali intersection under Keraniganj upazila. Seven units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence brought the blaze under control by around 2:30 pm.
According to the Fire Service Media Officer Talha Bin Jasim, the death toll currently stands at six.
