Ex-MP Masud Chowdhury placed on 3-day remand

DHAKA, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today granted a three-day remand for former lawmaker and retired Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury for the third time in a case involving embezzlement of Taka 24,000 crore and human trafficking.

After completing a six-day remand in the second phase, Masud Chowdhury was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court. The investigation officer requested an additional four-day remand to continue the probe. 

Following the hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam, acting on behalf of the CMM, approved a three-day police remand.

Earlier, he was arrested on the night of March 23 at his residence in the Baridhara DOHS area. On March 24, Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid granted a five-day remand in the case. 

Later, on March 29, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jesmin Islam approved a six-day remand for the second phase.

The case was filed on September 3, 2024, at Paltan Police Station by Altaf Khan, proprietor of Afia Overseas, accusing Chowdhury of embezzling Taka 24,000 crore through a syndicate and engaging in human trafficking.
