Khulna candidates stage last minute showdowns, pledge development

KHULNA, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) - Candidates contesting six parliamentary constituencies here in the district today staged last-minute processions and showdowns in their respective areas, pledging to implement election commitments including reopening closed mills and factories, creating jobs for women, combating corruption and ensuring overall development.

From Monday afternoon, candidates led large rallies across the city and adjoining areas, calling on voters to support their development agendas.

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and Khulna-5 constituency candidate Mia Golam Parwar addressed an election rally in the afternoon at the Shiromoni Shaheed Minar premises under Khanjahan Ali thana. 

Speaking as the chief guest, he said, "If we come to power, we will serve the people as their custodians, not as rulers." 

He pledged to resolve waterlogging, construct bridges, create employment for unemployed youths, expand technical education and improve hospital services.

BNP nominee and Khulna-3 constituency candidate Rakibul Islam Bakul addressed a pre-procession rally at Baikali Mor in the city in the afternoon. He said reopening closed mills and factories would be the top priority to address unemployment.

Earlier, BNP nominee and former city unit president Nazrul Islam Manju, contesting from Khulna-2, led a large procession that began at the Rupsha Ferry Ghat area and concluded at Shibbari Mor via Khanjahan Ali Road. 

Addressing a rally before the procession, he pledged to restore Khulna's lost heritage through modernization of roads and educational institutions and development of the shrimp sector.

Meanwhile, BNP nominee for Khulna-5 Ali Asgar Lobi addressed a large public meeting at Dumuria Swadhinata Chattar in the afternoon as chief guest. 

He promised construction of two aesthetically pleasing mosques and two temples in Dumuria and Phultala, establishment of two district-standard stadiums, ensuring maximum government financial assistance and grants, construction of a 250-bed hospital in Dumuria, modernization of Phultala Hospital and setting up community hospitals. 

He also pledged to implement the "One Teacher, One Tab" programme, establish modern schools in every union, promote women's education, take special initiatives for poor and dropout students, ensure transparency in widow, old-age and disability allowances, distribute family cards among poor families and ensure safe drinking water for all.

In the afternoon, BNP nominee for Khulna-6 constituency Monirul Hasan Bappi brought out a mass procession from Kapotakkho College in Paikgachha at 4 pm. 

The procession marched through the main roads of Koyra upazila headquarters. He pledged comprehensive development of the area.

Besides, candidates in all constituencies held rallies and processions, reiterating their development promises ahead of the polls.
