DHAKA, February 2, 2026 (BSS) – Police today arrested Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Md. Shafiqur Rahman, his wife Bithi and two others in connection with the torture of an 11-year-old child domestic worker.

Uttara West Police Station members made the arrest around 3:30 am from the Uttara area of the capital, according to a police press release.

The two other arrestees are Sufia (55) and Rupali (35), who were employed as domestic helpers at the residence.

Victim's father Golam Mostafa, a hotel employee, placed his only daughter as a child care worker at a residence in Konabari, Gazipur, in June 2025 due to financial hardship. Shafiqur Rahman and his wife allegedly assured him that they would take full responsibility for the child's maintenance and future marriage, said police sources.

Initially, the father was allowed to meet his daughter regularly. However, from November 2025, he was reportedly prevented from meeting her on various pretexts.

On January 31, Bithi contacted the father, claiming that the child was ill and needed to be taken away. When the child was handed over later that evening, the father noticed severe injuries and burn marks on different parts of her body, and the child was unable to speak properly.

The child was immediately admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur. During treatment, she reportedly told doctors and police that since November 2, 2025, she had been subjected to repeated physical abuse, including beatings and burns with hot cooking utensils, by Bithi, Shafiqur Rahman, and the two other domestic helpers.

Following the incident, a case was filed at Uttara West Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Acting on the case, police conducted a raid and arrested all four accused.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has provided Tk 50,000 to the child's family to assist with medical expenses.

Police said all the arrested individuals have been produced before the concerned court.
