CHATTOGRAM, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md. Ziaul Haque today said the Coast Guard is fully prepared to safeguard voting rights and maintain law and order during the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum, slated for February 12.

Speaking at a meeting held at the Bashiria Ahmadia Abu Bakar Siddique Fazil Madrasa ground in Sandwip, Chattogram, after reviewing the law and order situation in several constituencies, he said the Coast Guard has earned the trust of coastal communities by ensuring the safety of lives and property across the country's sea, coastal, and riverine areas.

Ziaul Haque stressed that the Coast Guard will work in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies to prevent violence, ensure public safety and protect citizens' belongings during the election period.

He said the Bangladesh Coast Guard has already been deployed in key locations to maintain peace, security and overall stability throughout the electoral process. In preparation for the February 12 election, strict security measures have been taken jointly with other law enforcement agencies to ensure a free, fair and peaceful voting environment.

The Director General announced that from January 18 to February 14, 2026, around 100 Coast Guard platoons -- comprising approximately 3,500 personnel -- will be deployed for 28 days at 332 polling stations in remote and sensitive coastal and riverine areas.

These platoons, divided into land and water units, will operate across 69 unions in Narayanganj, Chandpur, Khulna, Chattogram, Laxmipur, Noakhali, Cox's Bazar, Barisal, Bhola, and Patuakhali districts.

He added that special intelligence surveillance, drone monitoring, regular patrols, and necessary legal measures will be used to create a safe and festive voting atmosphere in high-risk areas.

Rear Admiral Ziaul Haque also noted that the interim government has scheduled the referendum on the same day as the election to promote accountability, public welfare, and national prosperity.

He said efforts are underway to inform and encourage people of all ages, professions, and backgrounds within Coast Guard jurisdictions to actively participate in the referendum.
