DHAKA, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) - Abdul Awal Mintoo, a candidate of BNP for Feni-3 (Daganbhuiyan-Sonagazi) has been conducting an extensive door-to-door campaign ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.

From early morning until late night, Mintoo, also Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Vice Chairman, has been holding mass contact programmes and road-side meetings across the two upazilas, drawing large crowds and enthusiastic responses from voters.

A prominent industrial entrepreneur, Mintoo said he is overwhelmed by the support he has received as a first-time parliamentary candidate.

He highlighted his family's long political and social involvement in the area, noting that his late father Haji Safi Ullah served as Ramnagar Union Parishad chairman and later as the first two-term upazila chairman of Daganbhuiyan.

His younger brother, Md. Akbar Hossain, was the first elected mayor of Daganbhuiyan Municipality and contested the 2018 parliamentary election from the same constituency on a BNP ticket.

Mintoo said Daganbhuiyan and Sonagazi have long been neglected due to the absence of elected representatives, alleging widespread corruption and misuse of development funds by unelected officials.

If elected, he pledged to prioritize solving local problems, improve living standards, and take strict measures against terrorism and extortion.

Upazila BNP Convener Md. Akbar Hossain said the formal campaign began on January 22 from Yakubpur Union of Daganbhuiyan and that Mintoo is covering at least two unions daily. On Thursday, campaigns were held in Rajapur and Purba Chandrapur unions.

Mintoo's wife, Nasrin Awal Mintoo,-Chairperson of the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Bangladesh (WEB)-along with his sons Tabith Awal, President of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), and Tajwar Awal, are also participating in separate outreach programmes.

Sonagazi Upazila BNP Convener Joynal Abdin Bablu said campaigns have already been completed in six unions, with programmes underway in the remaining unions and municipality.

The campaign will conclude with public rallies on February 9 at Sonagazi Government Saber Pilot High School ground and on February 10 at Daganbhuiyan Ataturk Government Adarsh High School ground.

According to election officials, the Feni-3 constituency has a total of 503,087 voters. Daganbhuiyan upazila has 248,384 voters, while Sonagazi upazila has 254,703 voters.

The constituency includes 161 polling stations and 917 polling booths. A total of nine candidates, including Jamaat-e-Islami nominee Dr. Fakhruddin Manik, are contesting the seat.
