DHAKA, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) - BNP candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency and member of the party’s Standing Committee Mirza Abbas today called on party leaders and workers to exercise patience during the 13th general election.
He said, “Remain calm in the face of provocative situations. Victory is on our side, Insha'Allah. Exercise patience for a few days and do not fall into the trap of any conspiracy.”
Mirza Abbas made the remarks at a brief rally before a mass procession in favor of his 'Paddy Sheaf' symbol at the Brothers Club ground in the city.
The mass procession started from the Brothers Club ground, traversed various roads of Dhaka-8 constituency, and ended at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan.
Mirza Abbas said, "The people of Bangladesh have fought for 17 years to secure this election. Many BNP leaders and workers have sacrificed their lives, senior leaders have also been martyred. The people of the country have suffered for a long time. They had no democratic rights. We have achieved this through movement.”
Recalling former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's struggle for the people of the country, he said, “You must remember that Begum Khaleda Zia struggled and fought for the people of Bangladesh, sacrificing her life. Remembering that, we must proceed on our future path. We must preserve our independence and sovereignty and create an environment for a fair election.”
The Standing Committee member warned, "There are conspiracies underway to disrupt election. There are plans to divert the people's attention away from the election.”
However, he said that BNP has participated in many elections and has never attacked any opponent. “We have always conducted elections in a festive environment. Even today, our leaders and workers are playing a very peaceful and quiet role," he added.
“BNP does not want to quarrel or create strife with any opponent. We want to give peace to the people of the country. We can stand up against those who conspire. After the election, we will make every effort to keep the country peaceful,” he added.
