DHAKA, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS)- BNP Standing Committee Member and BNP nominated candidate in Dhaka- 8 constituency Mirza Abbas today termed the upcoming national polls February 12 as crucial for the country and people must come forward to protect their voting rights.
He said, "BNP has been out of power for the past 17 years, and party leaders and activists have not been able to live in peace. Nearly five thousand leaders and activists have been subjected to enforced disappearances and killings. After all this, when the elections come, conspiracies against BNP started again."
Mirza Abbas made the remarks at an election opinion exchange meeting organized by the BIWTC Workers' Dal through a public gathering in Ward Number - 37 of Shahbagh Thana.
After that, he conducted a public gathering in the lane of the World Literature Centre in Ward Number - 21. In the afternoon, Mirza Abbas inaugurated an election campaign camp at Bijoynagar Scout Market and participated in a Pitha (pastoral cake) festival on Bijoynagar Main Road. In the evening, he participated in an election discussion meeting with leaders of five business associations, including BARD, at the Paltan Community Centre.
Mirza Abbas said that the BNP was founded by the Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. “Under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia, BNP has become a strong entity through movements and struggles and currently Tarique Rahman is leading it.” He added.
Addressing the voters, he said, "To protect our own rights, we must speak up ourselves."
After the opinion exchange meeting, while conducting a public gathering in the lane of the World Literature Centre in Ward No. 21, Mirza Abbas addressed the youth, saying, "We must also learn about the structures or institutions that can be built outside of jobs. It is now possible to earn very good money in Bangladesh through freelancing. If anyone works with dedication, they can earn very good income."
"We must make ourselves suitable for ourselves, our families, and our country. A job is not the most important thing and we should have the qualifications and skills for that,” he added.
