KUSHTIA, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today said they would not take revenge on anyone, stressing that the country belongs to all citizens, not to any single group.

“We have clearly announced that we will not take revenge on anyone. No one will be made an accused in cases unjustly,” he said, adding that Jamaat has not falsely implicated a single person.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman made the remarks while addressing a Jamaat-e-Islami election rally at Abrar Fahad Stadium in Kushtia Today.

He said Jamaat leaders were killed, repeatedly imprisoned, party offices were shut down, homes were demolished with bulldozers, the party’s registration was cancelled, and finally Jamaat was banned. “Despite all this, on the night of August 5 we declared that we would not take revenge,” he said.

Referring to Abrar Fahad, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said the slain student symbolises Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. “Abrar Fahad himself is the name of a rebellious revolution. His only ‘crime’ was raising his pen against domination, for which he was brutally killed,” he said.

He said the mass uprising of 2024 proved that the courageous youth of Bangladesh fear none but Allah. “I pay my deepest respect to all the martyrs under whose leadership the nation fought in July last year and attained liberation,” he added.

Speaking about Kushtia, the Jamaat Ameer said the Padma and Gorai river region has effectively turned into a desert due to mismanagement. “When water comes from upstream, it does not remain within the riverbanks. Both banks overflow, causing massive destruction. For years, river erosion has shattered the dreams of countless people,” he said.

He described rivers as a blessing from Allah, alleging that this blessing has been destroyed gradually. “Every year budgets are allocated for river dredging, but the money disappears while the river sand is never raised,” he claimed.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman also urged those involved in extortion after August to abandon such practices. “If you are doing this out of hardship, step away from it. We are ready to share whatever lawful livelihood Allah has given us,” he said.

He said Jamaat wants to build a Bangladesh where both men and women will be provided with dignified employment, particularly youths, so that they can use their strength to build and advance the country.

Leaders of the 11-party alliance were present at the rally. Kushtia Jamaat acting Ameer and Kushtia-2 constituency candidate Abdul Gafur presided over the event.

Among others, Jamaat Secretary Suja Uddin Joardar, Kushtia-3 candidate Amir Hamza, Kushtia-1 candidate Belal Uddin, Kushtia-4 candidate Afzal Hossain, and Kushtia city Jamaat Ameer Enamul Haque addressed the rally.
