Hige smuggled goods seized in Cumilla

CUMILLA (South), Jan 22, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a large consignment of Indian smuggled goods during an anti-smuggling drive in the border area of the district on Thursday.

Lt. Col. Mir Ali Ejaz, commander of Cumilla BGB Battalion (10 BGB), confirmed the recovery in the afternoon.

According to BGB sources, regular operations are being conducted to prevent smuggling and curb cross-border crimes along the frontier. As part of these efforts, a patrol team from Amangonda Border Outpost (BOP) under Chauddagram upazila carried out an anti-smuggling and anti-narcotics operation in the border area earlier in the day.

During the operation, the patrol team recovered a large quantity of sarees and three-piece dresses abandoned at Noapur border area. No individuals were found at the scene, and the goods were seized without any claimant.

The estimated market value of the recovered items is Taka 57 lakh 45 thousand.

BGB officials said the seized goods will be handed over to the concerned customs authorities following legal procedures. They also reiterated that such operations will continue to curb smuggling and other illegal activities in the border areas.
