NARSINGDI, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - Widespread enthusiasm is sweeping across Narsingdi ahead of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman's upcoming visit, as the district unit of the party completes extensive preparations to host a major public rally.

Tarique Rahman is set to formally launch his election campaign on Thursday from Sylhet, known as the land of 360 saints. In keeping with long-standing BNP tradition, he will begin his campaign by visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R). Since the party's founding, BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia have also traditionally started their election campaigns from Sylhet.

Following the shrine visits, Tarique Rahman will travel through Sylhet city and address a series of rallies along the Sylhet-Dhaka highway, covering Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi and Narayanganj districts in phases.

In Narsingdi, a large public rally will be held on Thursday evening under the initiative of the district BNP. The rally will be presided over by BNP Joint Secretary General and Narsingdi District BNP President Khairul Kabir Khokon, while District BNP General Secretary Manzur Elahi will conduct the proceedings.

Preparations at the rally venue beside the Dhaka-Sylhet highway near Basail Municipal Park have reached their final stage. Construction of a large stage has been completed, while microphone setup and decorative lighting work are nearing completion. As part of security measures, members of Tarique Rahman's personal security force (CSF), along with senior district police officials, inspected the venue on Tuesday.

To ensure the smooth organization of the event, a 14-member stage management committee has been formed with AKM Golam Kabir Kamal as convener and Mohsin Hossain Bidyut as member secretary. Additionally, a 13-member discipline committee has been constituted with Abdur Rauf Fakir Roni as convener and Siddiqur Rahman Nahid as member secretary. Several other sub-committees are also working round the clock to ensure the success of the rally.

Meanwhile, District BNP President Khairul Kabir Khokon and General Secretary Manzur Elahi, along with other senior party leaders, are regularly visiting the venue to monitor preparation work.

Local BNP leaders have described Tarique Rahman's visit as highly significant, noting that this will be his first public rally in Narsingdi as BNP Chairman. During the rally, he is expected to outline the party's election pledges and future plans.

"This is the first visit to Narsingdi by Tarique Rahman after a long gap since Begum Khaleda Zia's visit," said Khairul Kabir Khokon.

"We have held several rounds of meetings with leaders and activists of our associate organizations and carried out extensive publicity in both urban and rural areas. We are hopeful that several hundred thousand people will attend the rally."
