RANGPUR, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - National Citizens Party (NCP) member-secretary
Akhter Hossen has said that, as in the past, Jatiya Party has once again
taken a fascist stance in favor of 'No' vote in the upcoming referendum and
the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election.

"Jatiya Party is an ally of fascism and they were dictators. They do not want
the country's transition from the current state structure,'' he said.

He said this while talking to journalists after being allotted a symbol from
the office of the District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner in the
city on Wednesday afternoon.

Akhter Hossen said that Jatiya Party has now taken a stance in favour of 'No'
vote from the same attitude. The party participated in the governance of the
country in the past as a 'pet opposition party' in a fascist manner.

"Jatiya Party has once again exposed its fascist character through their 'No'
vote campaign. Even if they talk about 'No' vote, the people will not pay
attention to it. Rather, the people will say 'no' to the Jatiya Party, not
the referendum," he said.

Akhter Hosen said that there are concerns about the law and order situation
during the election as there have been some killings in the recent past,
which is a manifestation of the deterioration of the situation.

"If those who were involved in fascism and genocide could be arrested and
illegal weapons recovered, it would have been easier to control the
situation. We have been demanding a reorganization of the police force from
the beginning," he said.

He called on the law and order forces to always be ready to face any
situation with courage.

The NCP member-secretary said that the people of Bangladesh want freedom from
the state structure through which they have been oppressed for the last 54
years. Instead of dictatorship, the people now expect a participatory state
system.

"The main elements of that much-desired system are in the 'July Charter'.
Therefore, we should all support the 'yes' vote in implementing the July
Charter," he said.

At this time, he called on journalists to present objective news by ignoring
all kinds of intimidation, muscle power and money.

NCP member-secretary Akhter Hossen will contest from the 10-party alliance in
Rangpur-4 (Kawnia-Pirgachha) constituency with the symbol of 'Shapla Kali'.

Other candidates in this constituency are BNP's Mohammad Emdadul Haque
Bharsha (Sheaf of Paddy), Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD-Marxist)'s Pragati
Barman Toma (Scissors), Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish's Abu Sahma (Rickshaw),
Bangladesh Congress's Ujjal Chandra Roy (Dub), Jatiya Party's Abu Naser Shah
Md Mahbubar Rahman (Plough) and Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Md Zahid Hossain
(Hand-fan).
