DHAKA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today ordered the freezing of 21 bank accounts belonging to Md Mohibul Haque, former senior secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, and his wife Syeda Afroza Begum, former additional secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, over graft allegations.
The court also ordered the attachment of 1.72 acres of land registered in Mohibul's name, 0.1243 acre of land in the name of his daughter Moshreka Moumita Haque, and a 2,700-square-foot flat in the name of Afroza.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the orders, allowing two separate pleas filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the petition, an investigation team has been formed to probe allegations that Md Mohibul Haque accepted bribes, committed irregularities and corruption, embezzled Taka thousands of crores from development projects, laundered money abroad, and acquired assets beyond known sources of income in his own name and in the names of his family members.
The inquiry found that Mohibul Haque owns 1.72 acres of land in Bagerhat and Gazipur districts, while his daughter Moshreka Moumita Haque owns 0.1243 acre of land in Bagerhat. It also revealed that his wife Syeda Afroza Begum owns a 2,700-square-foot flat in Dhaka's Mohakhali DOHS area.
Records further showed transactions involving crores of Taka in 21 accounts held by Mohibul Haque and his wife with eight banks and the National Savings Directorate.
The petition said the accused are attempting to transfer or dispose of their assets, and warned that such transfers before completion of the inquiry could seriously hamper the investigation.
