BNP to vote 'Yes' in upcoming referendum: Mahdi Amin

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - Mahdi Amin, Adviser to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today said BNP will vote in favor of 'Yes' in the forthcoming referendum.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference at the BNP Chairman's office in Gulshan, Mahdi Amin said the party has incorporated some of its previous notes of dissent from the July Charter and the National Consensus Commission, aligning them with BNP's position.

"We observed during the mass uprising the need to reform the core state structure. Focusing on transparency in governance and accountability, BNP has worked on these key issues. Our 31-point agenda addresses the fundamental areas of reform. Therefore, we will support a 'Yes' vote in the referendum," he said.

Mahdi Amin added that the party had already informed its parliamentary candidates of its stance. "During the election campaign, we will maintain our position in favor of 'Yes' in the referendum," he said.

"In a democracy, dissenting voices and differing opinions are normal. We will address them in parliament. Overall, we have informed all in the party of our stance in favor of 'Yes' in the referendum," he added.

The referendum is scheduled to be held alongside the 13th national parliamentary election on February 12.
