DHAKA, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) – Titas Gas authority today issued an emergency guideline to minimize pilferage and evade accidents due to illegal connections from its high pressure pipelines in central parts of the country.
According to Titas officials, the state-run Titas issued the guideline finding particularly the pilferage at Donia, Palashpur and Shanir Akhra areas on the outskirts of the city fearing the illegal connection to cause massive damage.
“A local vested quarter is using gas through illegal connections from 16X15 inches PSIG’ high-pressure main line at Donia TBS point area,” a Titas gas official.
They were using gas in residential buildings through illegal connection with Dhaka City Central DRS at Donia TBS point at Palashpur (Shanir Akhra) area by 2-inch pipeline, he said.
The statement, meanwhile said the state-run entity feared possibilities of “explosion and massive damage to life and property at any moment” due to the illegally connection to the high-pressure distribution line.
It said Titas recently conducted an executive magistrate-led drive in the area which found local people using illegally in residential buildings by connecting low pressure pipeline to Titas’ high-pressure 16X150 PSIG main line at Donia TBS (Town Border Station), a gas facility point.
The statement said unruly people tried to prevent the drive manned by armed police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and concerned officers and employees of Titas Gas as the illegal pipelines were being removed.
The Titas authority requested residents of Palashpur (Shanir Akhra) are not to take gas connection from the high-pressure distribution line for the sake of their life and property.
“The Titas Gas authorities will not be responsible of any accident or loss of life or property due to taking gas connection from the high-pressure line illegally,” the statement read.
