DHAKA, Jan 12, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today sent to jail former 
councillor of ward-5 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Ashrafuzzaman 
Farid in a case lodged over the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim in 2023.
 
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order 
as police produced Farid, also the former acting mayor of DSCC, before the 
court and pleaded to place him behind bars till the end of the probe in the 
case. 
 
According to the case documents, BNP called a grand rally on October 28, 
2023. To foil the programme, the Awami League also called its own grand rally 
in the capital. At one stage, Awami League goons, with the help of police, 
attacked the BNP's rally in Nayapaltan, killing Shamim on the spot.
 
The case was filed with the capital's Paltan Police Station on September 24, 
2024.
