DHAKA, Jan 12, 2026 (BSS) - A three-member delegation led by European Union
Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) Chief Observer Ivars Ijabs paid a
courtesy call on Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr Shafiqur Rahman
today.
The discussion took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere at around 12
noon at the Jamaat Ameer's office in the city's Bashundhara area, said a
press release.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on various issues of mutual
interest involving Bangladesh and the European Union (EU). They particularly
discussed the importance of ensuring that the upcoming 13th National
Parliamentary Election is held in a free, fair and credible manner.
Both sides noted that Bangladesh and the EU would work closely to this end.
The delegation also expressed their commitment to further strengthening and
sustaining all constitutional and democratic institutions in Bangladesh.
At the meeting, the EU side assured that a 200-member delegation of the
European Union would be deployed to observe the forthcoming national
parliamentary election in Bangladesh.
The delegation and the Jamaat Ameer expressed optimism that bilateral
relations between Bangladesh and the European Union would continue to
progress in the future through cooperation, development and mutual
understanding.
Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and Central Publicity and
Media Department Chief Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, eminent educationist
and engineer Dr Jubayer Ahmed, Development Team Lead Dewan Alamgir, and
Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Jamaat Ameer Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan were
present at the meeting.
