DHAKA, Jan 12, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today showed former state minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak in a case lodged over an alleged attempt to murder one Md Durjoy Ahammed during the July Mass Uprising in 2024.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order as Palak was produced before the court, and the concerned investigation officer pleaded to show him arrested in the case. He was sent back to jail after that.
According to the allegations in the case, on July 20, 2024, the complainant, Md Durjoy Ahammed, participated in an Anti-Discrimination Student Movement procession. While he was standing on the road in front of the Post Office Alley under the Middle Badda flyover in the Badda Police Station area, Awami League cadres opened indiscriminate firing.
Durjoy got shot on his eyes and also sustained serious injuries to the back of his head. Believing him to be dead, the accused allegedly left him on the road and fled.
With the help of passers-by, the complainant was taken to nearby AMZ Hospital, where the on-duty physician referred him to the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital. He later received advanced treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). Durjoy, however, became blind for life.
In connection with the incident, on November 20, 2024, Durjoy Ahammed filed a case of attempted murder at Badda Police Station against 90 people, including the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
