DHAKA, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS) – The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced the winners of the Nagorik Padak–2025 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to social service, technological innovation, environmental protection and humanitarian activities.
The winners were formally announced and the awards were presented at a grand ceremony held at the DNCC Nagar Bhaban conference room in Gulshan-2 this morning.
According to a DNCC press release, the prestigious award was conferred on three individuals and five reputed organisations in eight different categories this year.
The awardees are Abdur Rashid Sohag, founder and chief executive of Pupil School Bus Limited, in the Inventor and Start-up category; Sruti Rani Dey in Personal Entrepreneurship; Hawa Begum in Advocacy; Uplift Bangladesh in Social Media Content Creation; Bhasantek School and College as an Environment-friendly Educational Institution; Uttara Public Library as a Social Organisation; PA Foundation for Animal Protection; and the Bangladesh Water Development Board as the Highest Taxpayer.
LGRD and Cooperatives and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, and Adviser for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan attended the award-giving ceremony, while DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz presided over the function, said the press release.
Innovation and Start-up Category: Award recipient Abdur Rashid Sohag has introduced the country’s first integrated transport system by developing a technology-based solution to ensure the safe transportation of school-going students in Dhaka and Chattogram.
A total of 7,000 students from more than 45 educational institutions are receiving this service through GPS tracking and a mobile app, which is also playing a significant role in reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions in the cities.
Personal Entrepreneurship Category: Sruti Rani Dey received the award for her contributions to social reform and environmental protection through personal initiatives. She has set an example in society by actively engaging in tree plantation, cleanliness drives and preventing 12 child marriages.
Social Media Content Creation Category: Uplift Bangladesh received the award for promoting Bangladesh’s positive image and development achievements to a global audience. The organisation has earned wide appreciation for producing documentary content on urban infrastructure and development over the past five years.
Bhasantek School and College, recognised as an environment-friendly educational institution, has been nurturing a spirit of environmental stewardship among its students since 1980, which earned it the award this year. The institution has long been contributing to the promotion of human values and environmental awareness alongside academic education.
In the Social Organisation category, Uttara Public Library was honoured with the award for promoting knowledge and fostering creativity. The organisation has built a strong cultural circle by developing reading habits and recognising distinguished individuals.
PA Foundation received the Nagorik Padak in the Animal Safety and Rights Protection category for its long-standing role in rescuing endangered animals, providing treatment and protecting animal rights.
Cyclone Sidr-affected Hawa Begum was honoured for her courageous role in protecting the rights of marginalised people and working for their livelihood development in the Advocacy category.
The DNCC also honoured the Bangladesh Water Development Board for its significant contribution to state revenue, as the organisation paid more than Tk 3.89 crore in taxes during the last fiscal year.
