Fugitive accused in lawyer Alif murder case held in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS)- Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) here have arrested an absconding accused in the sensational lawyer Saiful Islam Alif murder case from Laldighi area in the city on Saturday evening.
 
The arrested was identified as Ganesh Das, 19, son of Sharif Das of Sebok Colony under Kotwali thana in the city. 

Ganesh was implicated in the chargesheet of Advocate Alif Murder case and had been on the run for a long. 

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the RAB-7 picked him up from the Laldighi area at about 6 pm yesterday. Later, he was handed over to police for further legal action, a RAB press release said here today.
 
According to case statement, Advocate Alif was beaten and chopped to death by supporters of expelled ISKON leader and spokesperson of Sammilita Sanatan Jagaran Jote Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari during a pierce clash between law enforcers and angry protesters in and around Chattogram Court Building areas on November 26, 2024. 

Earlier, police detained Chinmoy from Dhaka in a sedition case filed with Kotwali police under Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) on charges of defaming the National Flag on November 25, 2024 and was placed before a court in Chattogram on the following day. 

As the court rejected the bail of Chinmoy, furious supporters of Chinmoy locked in a rowdy clash with law enforcers and at one stage, lawyer Alif was beaten and chopped to death at a place near the court building.
 
Jamal Uddin, father of Alif, filed a case with Kotowali Thana Police in this connection and police submitted a charge-sheet before a court here in the case on June 1, 2025. 

Arrested Ganesh has been mentioned as accused in the charge-sheet of the murder case.
