DHAKA, Jan 9, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) today officially handed over the documents of Anwara Udyan, adjacent to the Farmgate Metro Rail Station, to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

DMTCL Managing Director Faruk Ahmed handed the park's documents to DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz at the site, Metro Rail official said.

Speaking at the handover, Ejaz said, "We have come on behalf of the city corporation to open Anwara Park to the public. A walkway will be constructed around it, and work will begin very soon."

"We will decide on the park's opening schedule and will try to keep it open until at least 10 pm," he added.

Ejaz noted that city corporation usually manages the fields, with a steering committee-including members of the citizens' committee, overseeing maintenance.

"Some fields are under the Public Works Department, while others belong to RAJUK (Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakhha). Each ground will have a separate committee, which will report to the steering committee," he said.

Anwara Udyan, named after Shaheed Anwara Begum, a martyr of the 1969 uprising, had been closed for a long time due to Metro Rail construction.

The park is a significant green space in Dhaka, historically used for recreation and public gatherings.
