DHAKA, Jan 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police has arrested two members of an online fraud ring, including its mastermind for allegedly cloning the website of a Netherlands-based company and defrauding people by luring them into fake investment schemes.
The arrested individuals are Touhid Bhuiyan (21) of Narsingdi district and Hridoy Hasan (21) of Jamalpur district.
Special police super of CID, media, Md Jasim Uddin Khan confirmed their arrests, saying they in separate raids arrested Touhid Bhuiyan and Hridoy Hasan from Station Road area under Jamalpur Sadar Police Station on Wednesday.
According to the case details, the fraudsters cloned the website of a foreign company, creating a fake platform identical in name and design. Members of the gang sent links to the fake website to victims and introduced themselves as employees of the foreign company.
By promising quick and high returns, they persuaded victims to invest significant sums of money. At least one victim reportedly invested around Tk 25 lakh before realizing the fraud.
Following the incident, a case was filed with Paltan Police Station under Sections 420/406/34/109 of the Penal Code with November 1 last.
During the investigation, CID Dhaka Metro East Division uncovered that Hridoy Hasan had been operating similar fraudulent schemes for a long time through Telegram groups, posing as a representative of foreign investment companies.
Digital forensic analysis of devices seized from Hridoy Hasan revealed that he controlled around 30 bank accounts opened in the names of different individuals.
Investigators also found that he operated multiple Binance accounts under other people's names, which were linked to his personal bKash and Nagad accounts.
Additionally, 15 QR codes were discovered on his smartphone, enabling him to log into multiple Telegram accounts used to conduct fraudulent activities.
Although Hridoy claimed to be a computer engineer involved in web development, CID officials stated that he was actually engaged in investment fraud by cloning foreign company websites.
Both accused confessed to their involvement during preliminary interrogation.
CID has prayed for a 10-day remand of the arrestees after producing them before the court to further investigate transactions, financial records of the bank accounts, identify victims, and trace other members of the fraud ring.
The CID Dhaka Metro East Division stated that the investigation is ongoing and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against online investment fraud, cybercrime, and financial scams, vowing to bring all those involved under the law.
