PANCHAGARH, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS) – National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser for Northern Region Sarjis Alam today said he is open to scrutiny by relevant authorities and would accept legal action if any corruption allegation against him is established through proper investigation.

“Bangladesh has several agencies and institutions mandated to look into corruption. If any investigation, conducted within the law, can substantiate even a minor allegation against me over the past one and a half years, I will respect and accept the legal process,” he said.

The NCP leader made the remarks while speaking at a press conference at the NCP district office in the Lichutala area of Panchagarh town the afternoon.
Sarjis expressed concern over 'misleading information' being circulated about him on social media and urged the government and the Election Commission (EC) to take appropriate measures against the spread of disinformation, particularly during the election period.

He said some online content appears to be driven by political motivations and could create unnecessary confusion among voters. “Such activities may undermine public trust in political processes and candidates,” he observed, adding that preventing misinformation is essential for ensuring a fair electoral environment.

Regarding questions raised about discrepancies in his election affidavit, Sarjis said the Returning Officer declared his nomination valid as the key information was found to be in order.

He clarified that an unintentional typing error occurred in the income tax return, where an incorrect figure was mentioned. “The matter has since been corrected by following due legal procedures,” he added.

Addressing another allegation circulating online, Sarjis said photo cards claiming his involvement with the central committee of Chhatra League were inaccurate. He stated that he never held any such post at any stage of his political life.

Reflecting on his political journey, Sarjis said he has faced various forms of misunderstanding in the past due to his critical views on different political issues. “Despite challenges, we remained committed to our principles and continued our work,” he said.

Sarjis also voiced concern over reports of pressure and intimidation faced by some NCP activists in certain areas, calling for restraint and adherence to democratic norms by all political actors to ensure a peaceful electoral atmosphere.

He urged the government and the EC to closely monitor the situation and take steps to uphold fairness in the electoral process.

Addressing journalists, Sarjis said he expects the media to maintain balance and professionalism ahead of the election. “We believe responsible journalism plays a vital role in strengthening democracy,” he said, adding that cooperation between media and stakeholders can contribute to a credible and inclusive election.
