RANGPUR, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS) - Although common people experienced a severe cold
amid foggy weather in the morning, they experienced a very pleasant situation
in the afternoon across the country's northern region on Wednesday.
The minimum temperatures marked falls by one to three degrees Celsius during
the last 24 hours and ranged between 7.5 degrees and 9.3 degrees at 9 am
causing a bone-chilling cold amid foggy air and blowing cooler winds today.
However, the maximum temperatures marked rises by three to 5.5 degrees
Celsius during the period and ranged between 19.8 degrees and 24 degrees
Celsius today, delighting the common people with sweet and sunny weather in
the second half of the day.
Talking to BSS at 5:10 pm, Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Meteorological Office
Meteorologist Md Mostafizar Rahman told BSS that the night temperature may
continue to fall and day temperature may continue to rise in the coming few
days.
"In the northern region, the weather may remain cooler and foggy at nights
and in the mornings and sunny and easy in the afternoon in the next few
days," he predicted.
The difference between the minimum and maximum temperatures had come down to
the lowest due to the intense cold due to foggy weather in the morning today,
adding misery to the poor, distressed and displaced people.
"However, the temperature had been increasing since the sun emerged in a
clear sky from 10 am, making public life in the region easy and comfortable
until sunset today," the official said.
The minimum temperatures recorded at 9 am today were 8.4 degrees Celsius at
Rangpur city, 8.7 degrees at Dinajpur, 8.5 degrees at Saidpur, 7.5 degrees at
Tentulia, 8 degrees at Dimla, 8.5 degrees at Rajarhat, 7.5 degrees at
Thakurgaon, 9.3 degrees at Lalmonirhat and 9.2 degrees Celsius at Gaibandha
points.
The maximum temperatures recorded at 3 pm today were 23.4 degrees Celsius at
Rangpur, 22.7 degrees at Dinajpur, 24 degrees at Saidpur, 20 degrees at
Tentulia, 22.5 degrees at Dimla, 23.3 degrees at Rajarhat, 19.8 degrees at
Thakurgaon, 22.3 degrees at Lalmonirhat and 21.2 degrees Celsius at Gaibandha
points in the region.
Talking to BSS from Dinajpur, social worker Mahatab Liton said that common
people saw the smiling face of the sun there since the morning today.
"We are feeling refreshed in the soft sunshine. There is no fog in Dinajpur.
But we felt a lot of cold in the morning. Now we feel quite comfortable. I
wish the cold to go away quickly," he added.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Gausul Azim Chowdhury said doctors
continued to treat a higher number of people with cough, fever, asthma and
other cold-related diseases at the hospitals and health facilities today like
in recent days.
"We have an adequate stock of medicines and have taken special steps at the
government-run health facilities to treat cold-related patients, including
babies and children," he added.
According to officials at hospitals, upazila health complexes and community
clinics, the number of patients with cough, fever; asthma and other cold-
related diseases continued increasing due to severe cold.
Meanwhile, the interim government through the district administrations has
further intensified distribution of warm clothes to cold-hit distressed
people in the northern districts.
At the same time, different voluntary, professional, sociocultural and
charitable organisations, trade bodies and other institutions have been
extending their assistance and standing by cold-stricken people with warm
clothes to mitigate their sufferings.
