DHAKA, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS)- BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today said Begum Khaleda Zia never bowed to injustice, oppression or autocracy. She dedicated her entire life to the welfare of the people of Bangladesh.
He said, "Begum Zia fought uncompromisingly against the injustices of the autocratic government. She never compromised with injustice. In the history of Bangladesh's democracy, we do not know if a leadership like Begum Khaleda Zia will ever be seen again."
Moyeen Khan made the remarks as the chief guest at a mourning assembly and prayer meeting organized in memory of Begum Khaleda Zia held at the Shafiqul Kabir Milonayatan of the Dhaka Reporters' Unity in the city.
He said, "Begum Khaleda Zia understood the sentiments of the people. Her love for the people was unparalleled. The strength of the people was her strength. The massive presence of people at her funeral proves how popular a leader she was."
He further said that Begum Khaleda Zia was Bangladesh's first female prime minister. She was elected prime minister three times and won every election she contested in her life. "There is no other leader in Bangladesh’s politics who has won every election they contested," Khan added.
The veteran BNP leader said Begum Khaleda Zia spread development from cities to villages. He also mentioned the defeat of those who harmed the people in the name of the Liberation War and democracy on August 5, 2024.
Mentioning the leadership of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Moyeen khan added ,
"we believe that the worthy son of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman will be able to establish Bangladesh as a respected nation in the world."
The mourning assembly and prayer meeting, organized by the Nationalist Like-minded Alliance, was presided over by its chief coordinator and JAGPA President, Bir Muktijoddha Khondker Lutfar Rahman. The event was conducted by the alliance’s spokesperson SM Shahadat.
Other speakers at the event included Syed Nurul Islam, General Secretary of the Samyabadi Dal; Bir Muktijoddha ATM Golam Maula Chowdhury, Chairman of the Gonodal; Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, Secretary General of NPP; MN Shaun Sadeki, Chairman of Bangladesh NAP; and Abdullah Al Harun Sohail, Chairman of NDP.
