DHAKA, Jan 4, 2026 (BSS) - Md Shahdat Munsi, father of BSS special correspondent Munsi Shahidul Islam Rana, died of old-age complications this morning at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

He was 85.
 
Shahdat Munsi, a retired teacher of Moukaron Government Primary School, Patuakhali Sadar, breathed his last at about 6.30am today, Rana said.

Shahdat Munsi had been admitted to the DMCH since December 19 last as he was suffering from various old-age complications. 

He is survived by his wife, three sons, three daughters, and a host of relatives, students and well-wishers.

Shahdat will be buried at the family graveyard of Munshibari following his namaz-e-janaza to be held at Moukaron Government Primary School ground in Moukaron village in Patuakhali after Asr prayers.

In a message of condolence, BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor Mahbub Morshed expressed deep shock at the death of Shahdat Munsi.

He also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and convoyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
