DHAKA, Jan 3, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's newly appointed Press Secretary, Saleh Shibly today said a government accountable to the people is essential for building a humanitarian and welfare-oriented state.

Talking to reporters at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan, Shibly said, "I have assumed a new responsibility. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman envisions a democratic, humanitarian, and self-reliant Bangladesh in partnership with all democracy- and freedom-loving people of the country."

"To build such a society, it is necessary to have a government elected by the people and accountable to them. A responsible and democratic government is also a precondition for establishing an independent and accountable news media," he added.

We believe that understanding people's hopes and aspirations and ensuring a free press are crucial steps to making Bangladesh self-reliant and we will work towards that through the party, Shibly said.
