BHOLA, Jan 3, 2026 (BSS) - BNP leader Major (Rtd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, today said people of the country have regained their voting rights in exchange for the sacrifices made by the July fighters in 2024.

He said that for the last 16 years, people were deprived of their right to vote, expressing hope that voters would be able to freely exercise that right in the upcoming national election slated for February 12.

Hafiz made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the office of the Bhola District Administrator and District Returning Officer after the scrutiny of nomination papers for the 13th national parliamentary election.

He said the July fighters had removed what he described as a "mafia government" and helped ensure a fair and neutral electoral environment. As a result, he added, ordinary citizens are once again getting the opportunity to vote for candidates of their choice.

He further said the party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will formally assume responsibility as BNP Chairman. He noted that Tarique Rahman has already announced, "I have a plan."

He said the BNP election manifesto includes 31-point proposals, along with plans for overall national development and ensuring freedom for people of all classes.

At this time, he added, Tarique Rahman has called upon the public to participate in the upcoming election to strengthen democracy.

Lalmohan upazila BNP President Abu Jafar, General Secretary Babul Panchayet and other party leaders were present with Major Hafiz during the interaction.
