DHAKA, Jan 1, 2026 (BSS) - A delegation of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), led by its Vice President (VP) Abu Shadik Kayem, met BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at the party's chairperson's Gulshan office here today.
During the meeting, the DUCSU leaders expressed their sympathy and condolences to Tarique Rahman and his bereaved family at the death of his mother Begum Khaleda Zia, BNP chairperson and former three-time Prime Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Tarique Rahman said, "Differences of opinion are the beauty of democracy. We may have political differences among ourselves; however, our consensus on the issues of Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty must remain unshaken."
He called upon the country's youth to work together in the national interest.
"When we were of your age, there was far more terrorism and banditry in the country. The country was much more unstable. Surely, I would not want our children to face such a Bangladesh," he said.
The DUCSU delegation said they expect that upholding Bangladesh-oriented politics shaped by the uncompromising struggle and sacrifices of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and late Begum Khaleda Zia, the fight against all forms of hegemony, corruption, Islamophobia, terrorism and anti-state conspiracies must continue in the national interest.
They also expressed their determination to continue the unfinished struggle of Begum Khaleda Zia to establish justice (insaf). At the same time, they called for unity in demanding justice for the killing of Shaheed Osman Hadi.
DUCSU's literature and cultural affairs secretary Musaddiq Ali Ibn Mohammad, social welfare secretary AB Zubayer, executive members Raihan Uddin and Shahinur Rahman were present at the meeting.
