DHAKA, Dec 26, 2025 (BSS) - Nurul Islam Saddam has been elected as the central president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir, while Sibgatullah has been nominated as the secretary general for the 2026 term. 

The president was elected through votes cast by Shibir members across the country and was announced today at the second session of the organisation's central member conference held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka.

Voting for the central president was conducted online nationwide from 7pm on Wednesday to 10pm on Thursday. In line with Chhatrashibir's constitution, the newly elected president, in consultation with the executive council, nominated Sibgatullah as secretary general. 

"The election of the central president and selection of the secretary general of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir for the 2026 session have been completed," Chhatrashibir said in Facebook post. 

Nurul Islam Saddam previously served as the organisation's secretary general while Sibgatullah served as the office secretary for the 2025 session. Sibgatullah also served as the president of its Dhaka University unit.

Saddam completed his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Department of Economics at Khulna University in the 2014-2015 academic year, and is currently studying for a Post-Graduate Diploma in Entrepreneurial Economics at Dhaka University.

Sibgatullah completed his studies from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research at Dhaka University, where he is currently pursuing his second Masters from the Department of Development Studies. 

Earlier, the first session of the conference took place from morning to noon, during which Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman described Chhatrashibir as the de facto guardian of the student community.

The second session was conducted by assistant election commissioner and former central president Selim Uddin. Chief election commissioner and former central president Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand announced the election results and administered the oath to the newly elected president.
