KHULNA, Dec 23, 2025 (BSS) – Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Mia Golam Parwar today urged voters to cast their votes in favour of ‘Yes’ in the upcoming referendum to help build a discrimination-free and corruption-free society.
Addressing a representatives’ meeting at the Shahpur Madhugram Government College auditorium in Dumuria upazila under the Khulna-5 constituency, Parwar said political parties have jointly prepared a reform proposal to restructure the existing state system to establish good governance, balance of power, transparency, protection of people’s rights, and an end to corruption and discrimination.
He said the proposed framework, known as the “July Charter,” has been accepted by the nation and will be placed before the people in the forthcoming referendum to seek public opinion.
“We are urging people to say ‘Yes’ to reforms in the referendum. Making ‘Yes’ victorious means saying no to corruption, no to fascism, no to politicisation, no to suppression of dissent, and saying yes to justice, voting rights, democracy, and the rule of law,” he said.
The meeting was presided over by Dumuria upazila Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Gazi Saifullah and conducted by upazila youth president BM Alamgir Hossain. Khulna district Jamaat-e-Islami secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman, assistant secretary Professor Mia Golam Quddus, and district student affairs secretary Advocate Abu Yusuf Mollah attended the programme as special guests.
Others who spoke included Dumuria upazila Ameer Maulana Moktar Hossain, upazila Hindu wing president Dr Haridas Mondal, upazila working committee member Maulana Hafizur Rahman, Master Mostak Ahmed Chowdhury, Sheikh Billah Hossain, Maulana Mustafa Kamal, and Maulana Abdul Mannan, among others.
The Jamaat leader also said that to ensure free and fair elections, a level playing field must be maintained at all administrative levels so that all political parties enjoy equal rights and opportunities.
Parwar further said Jamaat-e-Islami remains sincere in following the electoral code of conduct. He alleged that some parties are violating the code by making promises of grants and financial benefits to the public in the name of family cards and farmer cards after the election schedule was announced.
“These violations are clearly visible in audio and video clips circulating on social media,” he said, urging the Election Commission and the authorities concerned to take strict action.
