DHAKA, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas today said the party is fully prepared to welcome its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman upon his return to the country on December 25.
He, however, made it clear that the party has not issued any separate call for a massive public gathering on the occasion, expressing hope that people would join spontaneously.
Mirza Abbas made the remarks while talking to reporters after inspecting the designated reception venue at the capital's 300 Feet area this afternoon.
He said there is a sense of concern and uncertainty among people over the country's current situation, adding that in this context Tarique Rahman's return is politically significant.
"No obstruction or lack of cooperation from the government side has been observed so far regarding the issue," he said.
"Tarique Rahman's return has now become the centre of discussion across the country. Even without any formal plan for the arrival of millions of people, it is natural that there will be spontaneous public presence when he comes back," Mirza Abbas added.
Earlier, Dhaka North BNP Convener Aminul Islam said that preparations are underway to arrange the biggest reception in history marking Tarique Rahman's return. He said millions of people have long been waiting to see Tarique Rahman in person.
Alongside stage preparations for the programme, additional security measures have been taken, with security checkpoints set up at key points throughout the area.
