DHAKA, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS) - The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today pleaded for framing charges of crimes against humanity against Salman F Rahman and Anisul Huq for allegedly inciting mass killings and other crimes against humanity during the July Mass Uprising, including through the imposition of curfew.

Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam made the plea during the hearing on charge framing in the case. He earlier read out the five charges brought against the duo and later played an audio recording of a telephonic conversation between Salman and Anisul.

At the end of today's hearing, ICT-1, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, adjourned the proceedings until January 4. Senior Advocate Monsurul Haque Chowdhury was present at the tribunal for Salman F Rahman and Anisul Huq.

The ICT-1 on December 17 had fixed today for holding the hearing on charge framing in the case. The prosecution submitted the formal charge on December 4, which the tribunal later took into cognizance.

According to the case documents, Salman and Anisul had a telephonic conversation during the July Mass Uprising, during which they allegedly expressed views in favour of eliminating protesters. Following the conversation, protesters reportedly came under indiscriminate firing in different parts of the country, prompting the prosecution to bring charges of incitement to violence against them.

Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman were arrested on August 13, 2024, in Dhaka's Sadarghat area while allegedly attempting to flee the capital via river routes.

They have remained in jail since then.
