DHAKA, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) - In a seven-day nationwide operation to protect fisheries and ensure waterway safety, the River Police seized 3.07 crore meters of illegal nets and arrested 246 people, 

They also seized 2,968 kg of fish, 50,000 Bagda fry, and 770 kg of jellied shrimp, and destroyed 242 illegal bushes from rivers during the operation, said a press release of the force. 

Authorities filed 46 cases, including 27 under the Fisheries Act, along with cases related to reckless speed, drugs, murder, and unintentional death. Prosecution was initiated against 79 bulkheads, and seven dredgers were seized for lacking valid documents. 

Three dead bodies were recovered.

Seized illegal nets and jellied shrimp were destroyed, while edible fish were distributed to orphanages and fish fry released back into the water.
