NARSINGDI, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangir Alam Shanto of Narsingdi has secured first position in the admission test for government and private medical and dental colleges for the 2025-26 academic year.
According to the results published on Sunday afternoon (December 14), Shanth ranked first among 120,440 candidates by scoring 91.25 marks. The overall pass rate in this year's medical admission test stood at 66.57 percent. He appeared for the examination at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College centre in the capital.
Shanto hails from Khamarerchar village under Narayanpur union of Belabo upazila in Narsingdi district. He is the eldest of three siblings. His father, Md Mizanur Rahman, runs a small grocery shop, while his mother, Ferdousi Begum, is a homemaker.
Sharing his reaction, Shanto said he initially aimed to study engineering but later decided to prepare for the medical admission test. "Through regular studies and online coaching, I gradually gained confidence. Even after being affected by dengue during my preparation, I continued my efforts," he said.
He attributed his success to his parents' prayers, teachers' guidance and his own perseverance. "To do well in the medical admission test, long-term and continuous study is essential," he added.
Regarding his future plans, Shanto said he aspires to become a specialist in cancer or oncology after completing his medical education. "The medical profession gives us the opportunity to serve people directly. My goal is to work for the underprivileged and helpless members of society," he said.
Expressing joy, his father Md Mizanur Rahman said, "With the income from my small grocery shop, I have tried to educate my children. Shanto has been talented and calm since childhood. We hope he will dedicate himself to serving people."
His mother Ferdousi Begum said Shanto received a scholarship at the primary level and achieved Golden GPA-5 in both SSC and HSC examinations. "We have always expected good things from him," she said.
Moniruzzaman, headmaster of Baroicha Residential Model High School, said Shanto passed his SSC from the institution in 2023 with Golden GPA-5. "A former student of our school becoming first in the country in the medical admission test is a matter of great pride for us. We hope he will shine in society," he added.
Shanth completed his primary education at Baroicha Oxford Academy. He passed SSC in 2023 from Baroicha Residential Model High School and HSC with Golden GPA-5 from Tejgaon Government Science College.
