DHAKA, Dec 15, 2025 (BSS) - The Forest Department has taken a new initiative to strengthen the country's wildlife education, research and conservation activities.
This programme has been taken with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. For the first time, wildlife research grants will be distributed among young researchers, university students, teachers and forest department researchers.
A total of TK 50 lakh will be distributed as grants this year, a ministry press release said.
On this occasion, a daylong workshop was organized at the Forest Department today. A total of 46 research proposals were submitted from across the country. Out of these, 22 proposals were initially selected. Students and researchers presented their presentations on the selected proposals.
There has been a shortage of adequate funding for wildlife research in Bangladesh for a long. For the first time, there is widespread interest and enthusiasm among students and researchers in such an initiative.
The financial assistance will be provided based on the quality of the research proposal, the importance of research at the national and international levels, and the experience of the researcher.
Chief Conservator of Forests Amir Hosain Chowdhury, renowned wildlife researcher and expert Dr Mohammad Ali Reza Khan, Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests Md Zahidul Kabir and Conservator of Forests (Wildlife and Nature Conservation Unit) Md Sanaullah Patwari were present.
Wildlife experts and teachers from different universities participated in the workshop.
