DHAKA, Dec 14, 2025 (BSS) - A case was filed today against the authorities of an online news portal over fabricated reports falsely linking BNP leader Mirza Abbas to the shooting of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Admin of the news portal titled daily Ajker Kontho and his associates were made accused in the case.

One Advocate Mohammad Sadikur Rahman Bhuiyan filed the case with the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam. The court, after recording the statement of the complainant, ordered Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP's) Detective Branch (DB) to investigate the matter and file a report.

The first information report (FIR) of the case stated that on December 12 at 3:25 pm, the daily Ajker Kantho published a news report titled "Sharif Osman Hadi shot by Mirza Abbas' cadres," which was completely false and misleading. 

The complainant alleged that the publication of the report was intended to damage the character of Mirza Abbas and undermine his election campaign.
