Martyred Intellectuals' Day, Birshrestha Jahangir's martyrdom anniversary observed in C'nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Dec 14, 2025 (BSS): The Martyred Intellectuals' Day and 54th martyrdom anniversary of Birshrestha Shaheed Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir was observed with due dignity and deep respect at Sonamasjid in Shibganj upazila of the district today.

On the occasion, wreaths were placed in the morning at the graves of Birshrestha Shaheed Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir and Shaheed Major Nazmul Haque beside the Choto Sonamasjid under the initiative of the upazila administration.

People from different walks of life, including officials of the upazila administration, freedom fighters, government and private sector officials, political leaders and local residents, paid homage to the martyrs by placing wreaths and observing silence.

Special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Birshrestha Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir and all martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the great Liberation War of 1971.

Deputy Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Masud, Superintendent of Police Gautam Kumar Biswas, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashiq Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Shibganj Police Station Humayon Kabir, and officials and employees of different departments of the Shibganj upazila administration were present on the occasion.

Brave freedom fighters and people from various professions of the district and upazila also joined the programme. Former Member of Parliament and freedom fighter Professor Md Shahjahan Miah, among others, placed wreaths at the graves.

It may be recalled that Birshrestha Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir embraced martyrdom on December 14, 1971, while fighting valiantly against the Pakistani occupation forces on the frontline. He was later buried on the premises of the Choto Sonamasjid.

Meanwhile, wreaths were also laid at the mosque mass grave in the district in observance of Martyred Intellectuals' Day.
