THAKURGAON, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) – National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser for Northern Region Sarjis Alam today said the upcoming national election cannot be delayed for the interests of any individual or organization as his party fully supports the election timeframe outlined by the interim government.

“We have no disagreement or doubt regarding the timeframe set by the interim government. We do not expect the election to be postponed for anyone. All we want a level playing field,” Alam told the introductory meeting of the Thakurgaon district convening committee of NCP at the Thakurgaon District Muktijoddha Complex auditorium this afternoon.

The NCP leader said the traditional “two-party equation” will not hold this time. He predicted that the strength of a second emerging political force may determine which of the major parties would form the next government.

Referring to the recently formed Democratic Reform Alliance, he said the NCP, AB Party and Bangladesh Rastro Sanskar Andolon have already joined the alliance and expect more reform-oriented parties to come together under one electoral symbol. “We want to work collectively to meet people’s expectations,” he said.

Alam said grassroots political dynamics have shifted, with rural communities increasingly distancing themselves from “oppressors and wrongdoers” and showing interest in parties that remain close to the people. As a centrist political party, he said, the NCP seeks to fill that space.

Commenting on the political environment, he said that if any religious or ideology-based party attempts to impose its views on all citizens, voters will reject them. “We will build a political force that stands for reform, and against all forms of dominance and authoritarianism,” he said.

Alam criticised a segment of administrative officials who, he said, fear acting according to their ethical responsibilities. “Some political parties still believe they can return to power using force, black money and administrative influence. This mindset is unacceptable,” he said.

On law enforcement agencies, he alleged that some police officers remain involved in bribery and allow offenders to escape while implicating innocent people. “We have lodged clear complaints to reform this system. No officer—whether an OC, SP, DIG or anyone else—has the right to act as a political worker. The NCP will take necessary measures if such behaviour continues,” he said.

Sarjis said the party aims to form convening committees in all upazilas, unions and wards of Thakurgaon by December, assuming that polls may be held in the first half of February. “To fulfil our aspirations in the upcoming election, we must strengthen our organisational structure,” he added.

NCP’s Joint Chief Coordinator Agriculturist Golam Mortuza Selim, Thakurgaon district Convenor Rafiqul Alam, member secretary Khalilur Rahman and others were also present at the event.
