DHAKA, Dec 8, 2025 (BSS) - The certificate awarding and closing ceremony of the media fellowship on comprehensive road safety, organised by the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC), was held in the city today.
At the event, a total of 25 journalists from various national newspapers, state-owned and private television channels, news agencies, and online news portals, who took part in the fellowship, were given the completion certificates and honorarium cheques.
The three-month media fellowship programme was designed to support journalists in producing fact-based, objective and responsible analytical reports on road safety.
The fellowship aimed to contribute to the formulation and promotion of a comprehensive road safety law in Bangladesh, support Bangladeshi journalis ts in preparing informative and analytical reports on such a law and present road safety in the media as a key public health and development issue.
By enhancing journalists' skills, the programme sought to enable them to more effectively influence road-safety-related programmes, laws, policies and enforcement, and to encourage policymakers to adopt and implement a comprehensive road safety law through accurate and timely information disseminated by the media.
The fellowship also sought to highlight the media's role in advancing target 3.6 of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 and target 11.2 of SDG 11 by halving the number of global deaths and injuries from road accidents and ensuring access to safe, affordable and accessible transport systems for all by 2030.
During the fellowship, the selected journalists, under the supervision of mentors nominated by BNNRC, published 75 fact-based, objective, and analytical reports on road safety.
Country Coordinator of the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) Dr Md Shariful Alam, and Chief Executive Officer of BNNRC AHM Bazlur Rahman and mentors of the fellowship were present at the function.
