DHAKA, Dec 3, 2025 (BSS) – The dream of a better future for 21-year-old Md. Saiful Mia was shattered at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on April 22, 2025, when immigration officials revealed that his Italy visa—purchased for Tk 20 lakh—was fake.
His father, Billal Mia, had already paid Tk 5 lakh in cash and 2,100 euros to the fraudsters in hopes of securing his son’s passage abroad.
Following the incident, Paltan Police Station registered a case.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested several members of the fraud ring, confirmed Special Police Superintendent of CID (media) Md Jasim Uddin Khan.
Among the suspects, Mahbubur Rahman, 30, the ringleader of the gang, was detained today from Khilkhet in the capital.
Earlier, on September 23, 2025, CID arrested Josna Khatun and her associate Milan Mia from Dhaka and Faridpur.
Investigators said the gang lured the Faridpur family with promises of Italian employment before issuing the fake visa and cutting off contact.
The CID will continue operations to identify and arrest the remaining suspects, officials added.
