DHAKA, Dec 2, 2025 (BSS) - Ansar members detained two sisters at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) this evening for allegedly attempting to traffic a newborn.

The arrested women were identified as Nahar, 47, and her sister Hasina, 38.

They were held in front of Ward 106 after Ansar members noticed them behaving suspiciously while carrying a baby boy and a girl.

Ansar Platoon Commander Alamgir Hossain said the women had planned to sell the newborn for Tk 50,000, a deal reportedly arranged with a woman named Kamila Begum.

During preliminary questioning, both detainees admitted to being involved in child trafficking, confessing that they frequently targeted vulnerable mothers and later sold their babies.

Victim Kamila Begum, who gave birth to a baby boy by C-section on November 29, said she was given Tk 22,000 for treatment but was prevented from breastfeeding her child afterward.

However, Nahar's son Fahim denied the allegations, claiming his mother and aunt had only helped Kamila by providing money for medical expenses.

DMCH police camp in-charge Inspector Mohammad Farooq said the two suspects have been handed over to Shahbagh Police Station for further legal action.
