DHAKA, Dec 02, 2025 (BSS) – Police officials today said that former Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Mohammad Salim has given “vital information” in connection with the killing of Jhut (garment-factory scrap) trader Md Monir, in July Uprising which investigators described as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing probe.
Investigation officer (IO) Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Mainul Islam Khan said these in his petition, where he pleaded to keep the former lawmaker behind bars till completion of the probe in the case.
“Since the accused is speech-impaired, he provided important information regarding the case through signs and gestures during interrogation. This information will be helpful for the investigation and is being verified in the interest of the investigation,” the IO said.
The police official filed the plea as Salim was produced before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Miah after end of his four-day remand in the case. The court later sent the accused to jail.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhad Ishtiaq on October 20 placed Haji Mohammad Salim and his elder son Solaiman Salim on a four-day remand each in the case.
According to the case statement, Monir joined a mass uprising rally in the city's Chankharpul area on August 5, 2024. He was shot and died on the spot around noon on that day.
Monir's widow, Rojina Akter, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on March 14, 2025, against 351 named and around 500 unnamed accused.
Haji Mohammad Salim was detained from the capital's Bongshal area on September 1, 2024.
