BGB sets up school in remote Bulupara, distributes educational materials to marginalized children

DHAKA, Dec 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has established a new primary school in the remote Bulupara area of Remakri Union under Thanchi Upazila in Bandarban, marking a significant step toward improving education for marginalized communities along the southeastern border.

The school was inaugurated this morning by Lt. Col. Abdullah Al Mehedi, Commander of the Alikadam Battalion (57 BGB), said a BGB press release.

The new school is expected to serve 70–80 deprived children from approximately 50 families across three nearby neighborhoods, offering a renewed opportunity for those who have been out of school for years.

Following the inauguration, he distributed essential educational materials— including books, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, chocolates and biscuits— to around 50 students.

Speaking at the event, Lt. Col. Mehedi emphasized that in addition to ensuring border security in these remote hilly regions, the Alikadam Battalion has long been contributing to the socio-economic development of ethnic minorities and hill-Bengali residents.

Under the ongoing ‘Operation Uttaran’ initiative, the battalion has been providing various humanitarian services such as free medical care, food and clothing distribution, winter relief, and emergency assistance for fire and flood victims.

He noted that the newly established school aims to bring children from marginalized border communities into the light of education and foster long-term development.

The army official reaffirmed that the battalion will continue its social and humanitarian activities alongside its security duties.

Local residents, public representatives, guardians, and community leaders expressed deep gratitude to the BGB for this initiative, describing the force not merely as a guardian of the border but also as a dependable source of development and humanitarian support in remote hill areas.

Members of the BGB, local traders, guardians, and dignitaries were present at the inauguration ceremony.
