RANGPUR, Dec 1, 2025 (BSS) - The Election Commission has announced temporary
postponement of the Begum Rokeya University Central Students Union (BRUCSU)
and Hall Students Union election process due to errors and complications in
the voter list.
As per the announced schedule for BRUCSU Elections-2025, the distribution of
nomination papers began on Sunday (November 30) and continued till Monday
afternoon.
The Election Commission announced this decision of postponement of BRUCSU
Election-2025 in a press briefing in front of the administrative building on
Monday at 4:30 pm.
While announcing the postponement, Election Commissioner Dr Mohsina Ahsan on
behalf of the six-member Election Commission said that the distribution of
nomination papers and other activities in the schedule will be suspended
until the inconsistencies in the hall-based voter list are resolved.
She said the voter list and hall-related documents provided by the university
registrar after the Election Commission applied to him for the hall-based
voter list were found to contain several serious inconsistencies, incorrect
information and incompleteness.
In this situation, continuing the distribution of nomination papers based on
the incorrect and inconsistent voter list will go against electoral fairness,
transparency and acceptability.
Based on this list, distributing nomination papers will create legal
complications among the candidates, she added.
It is not possible to continue the election process without correcting the
incorrect voter list.
She called upon the university administration to investigate whether any
person in the departments concerned from whom the incorrect information was
provided had any malicious intention to discredit the Election Commission to
the students.
The Election Commissioner urged the Registrar's Office to promptly correct
all the errors, omissions, duplications and inconsistencies in the hall-based
voter list and provide a revised and verified voter list so that the election
process can be resumed without delay.
She also said that the Election Commission will not bow to any pressure and
continue the flawed election process until it receives correct information
and documents.
At this time, Chief Election Commissioner Professor Dr Md Shahzaman, Election
Commissioners Md Amir Sharif, Md Masud Rana, Dr Mohsina Ahsan, Md Hasan Ali
and Dr Pradeep Kumar Sarkar were present.
Talking to BSS at 7:15 pm, Vice-chancellor (VC) of the university Prof Dr Md
Showkat Ali said steps have been taken to make the voter list correct so that
the Election Commission could resume the election process from tomorrow.
"The departments or persons involved in this activity of preparing voter
lists with errors will be held accountable, if found responsible," he said.
