DHAKA, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) - Special prayers were offered at Dhaka University (DU) today seeking the speedy recovery of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is currently suffering from critical
illness.

The doa mahfil, organised by the DU administration, took place after Zuhr prayers at the university's Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Mosque.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Dr. Abdus Salam, Proctor Saifuddin Ahmad, Acting Registrar Munsi Shams Uddin Ahmed and numerous teachers, officers and staff
attended the prayer gathering.

Addressing the event, DU VC Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan said the university community is deeply concerned about Begum Khaleda Zia's deteriorating health.

"We all know she is going through a critical stage of illness. Her contributions to society and the nation are widely acknowledged, regardless of political affiliation. Even those of us who are not directly involved in
politics hold her in respect," he said.

The VC added that Islam places great emphasis on visiting the sick, praying for them and uplifting their spirits, following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). "We have gathered here today with that noble intention. I am
grateful to all who responded so quickly to the university's call," he added.

"We sincerely pray that Begum Khaleda Zia recovers fully and soon regains the strength to continue contributing to the welfare of the people. May Allah grant her healing, strength and patience," the VC further said.

Following the brief remarks, special prayers were offered for the health of Begum Khaleda Zia, as well as for peace, prosperity and wellbeing of the nation.
