LALMONIRHAT, Nov 29, 2025 (BSS)- Chief Coordinator of the Teesta River Protection Movement and Organizing Secretary of the BNP Principal Asadul Habib Dulu has stressed the need for an elected government for effective management of the administration.
“An elected government is necessary for better management of the administration,” he said.
Dulu made the remarks while addressing a public sit-in demonstration held at Mission Moor in the district town.
The program was organized by local residents protesting the authorities’ failure to take effective action after the road adjacent to the Mahendranagar Biswa Godown remained closure for seven days.
The senior BNP leader criticized the district administration for what he termed “severe negligence” in resolving a week-long road closure on the Lalmonirhat–Burimari highway.
“We cannot expect effective administration without a political government,” Dulu said, adding that administrative units were currently “operating without supervision,” leading to a lack of accountability.
He claimed that such mismanagement had long contributed to “discrimination” against Lalmonirhat district.
Referring to the incident that triggered the closure, Dulu said a small truck overturned, damaging an electric tower and disrupting communications along a vital route stretching from Burimari to Teesta — the “lifeline of Lalmonirhat.”
“I expected the administration to restore communication within one to two hours,” he said, adding, “But those responsible have still failed to do so.”
The BNP leader alleged that the delay persisted due to “various excuses” and a lack of coordination among government departments.
“I have waited almost seven days and contacted all relevant offices myself, yet they continue to blame each other,” Dulu added.
Dulu also said that although district officials had discussed the matter with him after the sit-in was announced, they could have earlier resumed the communication line at Mahipur Bridge for emergency movement.
Their failure to take timely action, he argued, had caused extensive damage to other regional roads.
Heavy congestion on the Kulahat, Mahendranagar, and Kazi Chaura roads had become so severe, he said, that even ambulances were unable to pass. He warned of escalating protests if the issue remained unresolved.
“If the administration does not take prompt action, we will be forced to announce a larger program from tomorrow,” he declared.
Dulu also criticized what he termed as insufficient media attention to the prolonged disruption.
“The situation has been like this for a long time, but the media has not given it proper coverage. If the media becomes active, I believe the problem can be resolved quickly,” he said.
A number of BNP leaders and social organizations joined the sit-in, including District BNP Senior Vice President Advocate Fazlul Haque Sarkar, Vice President Advocate Rafiqul Islam, Joint General Secretary AKM Mominul Haque, Deputy Joint General Secretary ABM Faruk Siddiqui, Organizing Secretary and Municipal BNP President Afzal Hossain, General Secretary Abdus Salam, and representatives of District Mohila Dal and other BNP affiliated bodies .
