DHAKA, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) - A significant step toward a sustainable future was launched today with the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the ‘Single Use Plastic Free Model School Campaign’.
The initiative, which started its journey following the agreement between the Department of Environment (DOE)-Dhaka Region, Green Savers, and the BSRM Foundation, aims to completely free selected schools across 13 districts of the Dhaka division from single-use plastics, said a press release.
The primary goal of the campaign is to encourage students toward an environmentally friendly lifestyle.
The project focuses on establishing Eco-Awareness Green Clubs in 100 schools within the Dhaka region.
Through these clubs, students will be actively engaged in manufacturing eco-friendly alternatives, including paper pens, paper bags, gift wraps, and origami products.
The progress of the schools will be tracked through awareness programs and quarterly evaluations. The initiative is expected to directly involve about 5,000 students, while indirectly engaging over 50,000 guardians and community members.
Under the terms of the MoU, Green Savers will oversee the planning and management of the project implementation.
The BSRM Foundation will provide necessary financing and infrastructural support through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework.
The Department of Environment (DOE) will offer policy guidance and provide government assistance for the exhibition and display of products created by the students.
Speaking as the chief guest at the signing ceremony, Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Director General of the Department of Environment, emphasized the urgency of the problem.
He stated that the use of single-use plastics is currently a major contributor to global environmental disaster.
Dr. Kamruzzaman stressed the power of educating young generations, noting that if plastic-free living can be taught in crucial settings like schools, the future generation will themselves lead the change.
He concluded that this initiative represents an important milestone in the nation’s environmental protection efforts.
The event was also attended by key officials, including Md. Ziaul Haque (Additional Director General) and Md. Abul Kalam Azad (Director of the DOE-Dhaka Region), who presided over the ceremony. Ahsan Rony, Chief Executive of Green Savers, and Sabin Amir, Director of BSRM Group of Companies, were also present.
