Goats distributed among 131 ethnic families in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR, Nov 24, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Livestock has distributed 262 goats among 131 families belonging to ethnic groups in Dinajpur in an effort to improve their socio-economic conditions.

The distribution event was held on Monday at 4 pm at the Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Livestock Office. 

Alongside the goats, beneficiaries also received free house-construction materials to support proper goat rearing and help uplift the living standards of small ethnic communities residing in the plains.

The programme was presided over by District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Abdur Rahim. Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer  Shaheen Sultana attended as the chief guest and handed over the goats and materials. 

In her remarks, UNO Shahen Sultana emphasized the government’s commitment to integrating marginalized ethnic groups into mainstream development. 

“This goat distribution initiative will enhance empowerment, create economic opportunities, and help beneficiary families become self-reliant,” she said, adding that proper goat rearing can offer both social and financial resilience to the communities.

Upazila Livestock Officer Md. Shahina Begum, Upazila Cooperative Officer Md. Hafizur Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdullah Al Masud Tushar, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Sharmin Akhter and Upazila Rural Development Officer Bishnu Pad Roy spoke as special guests.

A total of 262 goats—two per family—were distributed, along with floor mats, four pillars and two tins per household, and other necessary materials to construct goat shelters.
