LAKSHMIPUR, Nov 14, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny today said the BNP does not possess a tyrannical mindset and that fascist, terrorist, and authoritarian tendencies were never present in the party, nor are they now.
"The party is fundamentally good for the country and is not detrimental to its interests," he said while addressing an "uthan boithok" (courtyard meeting) organized by the Bangakha Union BNP and Mohila Dal (Women's Wing) for wards 1, 2, and 3 of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.
Highlighting the sacrifices of the party, Anny said that despite being victims of immense oppression, torture, attacks, lawsuits, disappearances, and murders, the BNP has refrained from harming anyone.
He characterized the BNP as the party of the common people.
He recalled President Ziaur Rahman, describing him as the leader of the common people and the villages.
Anny asserted that bad people cannot remain in Ziaur Rahman's party, as the late president never tolerated negative elements.
He claimed that the popularity of Ziaur Rahman was evidenced by the fact that his funeral was the largest funeral in world history.
Anny alleged that President Ziaur Rahman was not allowed to live and claimed that killer Sheikh Hasina and a neighbouring country were involved in the killing of Ziaur Rahman.
The BNP Joint Secretary General confirmed that both Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman are continuing the work to implement President Ziaur Rahman's vision.
